(3) Extraction

Taking to consideration rules of unit and dimension against supply chains allows to design for disassembly. low tech solutions, discarded industrial materials and other alchemies.

Originally a tribute to the Gianfranco frattini and Achille Castiglioni’s playful Boalum lamp, a concept for a desk lamp emerged by looking at similarities between craft Japanese lanterns and industrial extraction tubes.

The top and bottom elements of the lamp above are made in paper pulp while the central lighting element is made out of paper wrapped around a metallic spring.

The programme led by the designer Shahar Livine consisted in the visit of a metal Sorting facility in Karlsruhe, Germany.

The lamp in the image to the right can be completely disassembled in order to be further recycled as the materials were entirely borrowed from the metal sorting facility and minimally processed.
